another grey world was the fifty first catalogue release.
it is available in digital format only.
sometime in the middle of the pandemic, i finally finished moving my entire life to mexico. expatriating from your home country, particularly when the world is in an unsteady place filled with lockdown rules, rising death tolls, and ongoing climate emergencies… it can exact a heavy emotional price. given the scope and expense of the project, it certainly caused no end of sleepless nights considering the future and what it means to try to make some creative noise in an already too noisy world.
with the initial border crossing part of the process out of the way, finally i had an apartment filled with boxes. so many boxes. digging through everything to find my studio, building it out, hooking it all up… this was a months long ordeal. there were many delays and setbacks along the way. it was getting pretty frustrating, too long had passed since i was last able to do something creative and it was beginning to feel like it was never going to happen again. i took a couple of small pieces of equipment and set them up on a small table in my soon to be dining room.
pretty soon i was making some interesting loops and drones, mixed with some live mics in the room focusing on various real time sounds in the environment. everything recorded to cassette and then digitized for mixing properly. a meditation on the unyielding emotional emergency we’re all facing every day, the dread of the modern poisoned age.
being and nothingness.
ps, this release is meant to flow continuously (zero gaps), so please adjust your playback software to accommodate that.
